The Haunted House:
Choose Your Own Adventure
Despite your weariness, it just wouldn't feel right sitting before the fire without a book in hand, so you turn to peruse the bookshelves, figuring them to be a little more organized than the stacks upon the table. You're a little disconcerted to discover that you're not the only one in the library, as several ghosts are floating here or there, seemingly oblivious to your flesh-and-bone presence. Let's hope it stays that way. Didn't Ghostbusters start with a haunted library? A chill runs down your spine and goosebumps run up your arms as one of the inattentive ghosts passes through your body, on her way to a different shelf of books. You shudder involuntarily and cross your arms in front of your breasts, hugging yourself tightly for warmth. Wait ... breasts? It seems by the ghost passing through your corporeal form, a little of her essence rubbed off on you, transforming your body so that it is rather identical to how she must've looked in life - tall and waify, with modest curves, jet black hair flowing in gentle waves past the small of your back, a Latina cast to your appearance, and garbed in a casual (for the eighteenth century) dress that is elegant in its simplicity. Surprisingly calm about your physical changes (maybe the ghost's essence shifted more than just your body), you turn your attention back to the books, maybe something therein will have an explanation or a way to return to normal. The first book, Un Traité de Surnaturel Maladies looks like it may have relevance, seeming as it does, from the etchings of a skeleton on the spine, as a medical text of sorts, though the text itself may be difficult to understand if the book itself is written in a foreign language. The title could just be a pretension, after all. Two other books catch your attention as maybe being relevant, a King James version of the Holy Bible (Isn't there something about exorcisms in there?) and a rather odd little leather-bound book titled Selected Invocations of Anirek Ikas Anin which has all the trappings of 'spell book,' right down to the grim aura surrounding it. One last book catches your eye, before you can select one of the three preceding texts, and though there's not likely to be anything relevant therein, a semi-historical romance may make for a nice, relaxing read. And given that your first thought, before the ghost inadvertently feminized you, was to find something to relax with, maybe it would be the best choice for now...? Romance sounds sweet Is that really a medical text? Reach for the grim grimoire A Haunted House with a Bible -- does that make them Holy Ghosts? |
