You shake your head in a combination of disbelief and refusal. Mina and Ayaka are visibly disappointed, as is the cat, but you can't read the expressions of the other two girls.

This of course leads to further discussion and attempts to convince you to at least try. The girls can be rather persuasive, and you almost want to give in because you're not at all sure that anything will happen, and even if you do have the powers to be the fifth member, it doesn't necessarily follow that you'd have to be a girl to use them. Still, a mental picture of yourself dressed like Shiori does wonders in bolstering your resolve, and in the end it comes to a rather loud argument and you storming out of the house.

Turns out that tracking down the girls wasn't a good idea after all. You would have done better to have just forgotten about them and gone on to the shopping centre and gone about the rest of your day. Now you have four girls mad at you, thinking that you are abandoning them to fight against the odds when they're underpowered from having only four of the five teammates.

And of course, as fate wills in, you encounter the girls several more times over the next couple years, both in their magical girl forms and normal girl forms. And each encounter ends in another argument. You, of course, still refuse to be turned into a girl.

Eventually, you learn to harness your intuition that aided you in finding them the first time, and are able to take advantage of it in such a way that you never again cross paths with those who would be your teammates.
